Emergency services are on scene after a person was seriously assaulted near a hotel.

Onlookers reported that there is an air ambulance on the scene, along with a large police and ambulance presence, including at least two police cars and two ambulances.

The incident is reported to have taken place near the Westcliff Hotel, at the junction of Marina Avenue and Westcliff Parade.

The air ambulance landed on Southend's beach but is believed to have taken off without picking up the patient.

Southend's local policing team confirmed a person had been assaulted.

In a tweet, the team said: "We have been supporting our colleagues at the air ambulance this afternoon following a reported assault.

"The victim has been taken to hospital and enquiries progressed by Southend CID."

The East of England Ambulance Service has said they are liaising with police and Essex Police has yet to comment on the incident.
