Two people have reportedly been taken to hospital, following a crash on a major Benfleet road.

Earlier today, Rayleigh Road in Benfleet, close to the Rayleigh Weir junction for the A127, was closed off following a crash at the junction with Daws Heath Road.

Queues are building on the road, which is currently blocked off by police from the Woodmans Arms pub to the Rayleigh Weir junction.

Emergency services including the fire department also attended the incident.

A spokesperson from Essex Police said: "We were called to reports of a collision involving a white Audi Q3 and a silver Volkswagen Polo in Rayleigh Road, Benfleet at 8.30am today (July 30).

"Two people have been taken to hospital. No-one sustained life threatening or life-changing injuries.

"The driver of the Audi, a 29 year old man, has been arrested on suspicion of careless driving and possession of an offensive weapon.

Arriva are also informing customers that their Service 1 bus will be terminating at Woodman’s. Passengers can expect delays to this service.
