Work is underway to widen the A13 from two to three lanes in both directions between the A128 (Orsett Cock roundabout) and the A1014 (The Manorway, Stanford-le-Hope).

When complete, the widened section will join with the existing three-lane section of the A13, west of the A128, providing a continuous 3-lane road in both directions between the M25 and Stanford-le-Hope.

As part of the work, four bridges will be replaced, the Orsett Cock roundabout will be widened and new traffic lights will be installed to help manage vehicle flows. Public bridges will be built and opened before the old bridges are demolished.

Thurrock Council say mproving the A13 will boost the local economy, helping businesses to increase productivity, reduce costs and create more jobs.

Due to the major works, the A13 has been periodically closed for the vital work to be carried out.

The next closure will be in place from 9pm, Friday August 30 until 5am, Monday September 2.

It will be closed in both directions between the A128 (Orsett Cock roundabout) and the A1014 (Stanford-le-Hope) for the demolition of Saffron Gardens Farm Bridge.

Work by BT to install new communications cables will take place at the same time.

Thurrock Council are expecting severe congestion on the approaches to the road closure and would urge drivers to avoid the area if possible.

Non-local traffic should avoid the A13 during this closure and use alternative routes such as the A130, A127 and M25 to minimise delays and reduce possible congestion in Orsett, Horndon on the Hill and Stanford-le-Hope.

Local traffic will be diverted via the A1013 Stanford Road.
