A DEVELOPER has now temporarily relocated a war memorial to make way for a shopping centre and homes.

Swan Housing Association has moved the Laindon War Memorial, which has been in place since 1935, to allow for the construction of 86 homes, 138 flats and a shopping parade. The memorial has been re-installed by the temporary retail area, close to the Laindon Health Centre, to ensure that it can continue to be honoured on Remembrance Day and throughout the year.

The fountain has been stored safely on site.

Geoff Pearce, executive director of regeneration and development at Swan, said: “It is wonderful to see the memorial installed in its temporary location. We will continue to work on delivering Laindon’s new high street, shops, homes and health centre.”
