Members of the public are set to get their first glimpse at ambitious plans to build a new state of the art business part on the edge of Braintree.

Braintree Council will host a public exhibition to showcase its vision for the new Horizon 120 project, which will be built on a 65-acre site in Great Notley.

Bosses bought the land towards the end of last year in the hope the centre will attract new businesses to the district and create up to 2,000 jobs.

The latest proposals for the project, which will be unveiled during the public exhibition, include plans to create a leafy environment with tree-lined roads and paths.

An area to the north-east will be a designated habitat with ponds, natural hedgerows, grassland and trees to enhance biodiversity so it attracts animals such as birds, mammals, insects and reptils.

Council leader Graham Butland said: “We want to make it as easy as possible for businesses to invest and locate this this business park, which is why we’re proposing a framework which streamlines the planning process and gives clarity and certainty to developers because we know how important it is to provide a context which encourages development and progress.

“We have high ambitions for this site, not just in terms of employment opportunities for local residents, but also in terms of offering a quality sense of place.”

The business park is expected to be split into four distinct zones with a mix of different uses.

Bosses have previously announced plans to install a central hub area which would be home to gyms, retail units and a restaurant and offer childcare provision.

A hotel is also being considered to support the needs of businesses likely to move to the site.

The new business park will be set up under the terms of a local development order- a type of planning framework which aims to encourage economic, environmental and social gains.

The order grants permission for certain forms of development and land uses, as long as they meet certain conditions.

The design code ensures that building meet certain standards in terms of architectural design, quality and environmental ratings.

It will be the first of its type in the Braintree district.

The exhibition takes place at Great Notley Community Centre on Monday, September 30.
