AN alternative oyster feast was held for pensioners at Greenstead Social Club.

About 90 people were served a fish and chip supper before taking part in a sing-song.

Bingo was also played throughout the afternoon and there was an inspirational talk from Les Nicoll, who works at the Essex Fire & Rescue Service.

Residents also enjoyed a raffle.

Councillor Dave Harris, who helped organise the feast, said: “It was a wonderful event and a complete contrast to the Oyster Feast at the Town Hall.

“We had people aged from 60 and one lady celebrated her 95th birthday.

“They were all really pleased to be there and had smiles on their faces. Some of them hardly ever get out.”

The alternative feast was set up 36 years ago to offer pensioners and the elderly a different way of celebrating one of Colchester’s biggest traditions.
