A MAN is believed to have fallen from the roof of a large building.

Ambulance crews and police are on the scene in Hawkins Road, Colchester, after the incident.

An onlooker said the man had fallen from the top floor of a four-storey building site.

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust said: "We were called at 1.46pm with reports of a person who had fallen in Hawkins Road, Colchester.

"We sent the Hazardous Area Response Team and one ambulance.

"Crews remain at the scene."

Ambulance crews went into the building site - which is surrounded by blue hoardings in order to rescue the man.

Passerby Jordan Godfrey said: "It looks like he has fallen from a four storey building - from the roof all the way down to the bottom.

"The air ambulance was landing behind and it looks like he is being airlifted to hospital.

"They have closed off the building now so you can't see the damage."

It is understood workers from businesses around the area also helped emergency services with the incident.

Essex Police attended the scene but only to assist emergency service colleagues.
