AROUND 100 teenagers took to the streets of Colchester to call for Governments across the world to do more to tackle climate change.

The newly formed youth branch of Extinction Rebellion in the town, Extinction Rebellion Colchester Youth, hosted their first ever event, a climate strike, on Saturday.

Approximately 100 people attended, marching from Castle Park, where they heard from a range of speakers, through the town centre.

Campaigners then hosted a die in protest in Culver Square Shopping Centre.

Ed Spence, a 16-year-old Colchester Sixth Form student, founded Extinction Rebellion Colchester Youth.

He said: "We had a very good turnout with about 100 people turning up.

"It was mostly students, but we had all sorts of people there."

The youth group is planning to host a number of similar protests in future.
