Funding appeal to fight plans for 160 homes in Great Horkesley

The appeal has been set up by Great Horkesley residents who are fiercely opposed to plans to build 160 homes on land at Coach Road.

The move comes after developers Bloor Homes hosted a public consultation over the proposed homes scheme.

In it, it said about 30 per cent of the homes will be affordable.

If the plans are agreed, there will also be new areas of public open space including a circular walk and connections to the recreation ground.

At the time of the consultation a planning application had not yet been submitted to Colchester Council but plans are in the pipelines.

A statement from Bloor Homes said: “A public exhibition was held at Great Horkesley New Village Hall on October 24.

“We would like to thank all those who attended the exhibition and provided feedback to the project team.

“All feedback received will help inform a future outline planning application to be submitted to Colchester Council.”

However, some residents are against the proposals which they say is too big for the village and will adversely affect the area.

Protesters are now looking to get advice from planning experts and are trying to raise funds to do so.

The fundraising page said: “The residents of Great Horkesley want to stop a huge development of houses being built in the village.

“This estate will spoil our environment and have a negative impact on the community.

“Funds raised will pay for specialist advice from independent planning consultants, hiring of the village hall for community meetings and leaflet printing to distribute to the village to help support the green belt.”

A target of £1,000 has been set and £400 has been raised so far.
