THOUSANDS of revellers will flock to Castle Park for the return of the Colchester's biggest fireworks spectacular.

Organised by King Coel’s Kittens, this year is the 49th edition of the popular town centre event, which is known as one of the biggest displays in Essex.

Star of the show is the handmade Guy for the bonfire, created by Judy Alden with the help of husband Bernard and grandchildren Toby and Heidi.

She said: "He is stuffed with old Gazette newspapers on a wooden frame, and will be in the procession just before lighting the bonfire."

The Guy will be marched in the procession by the Colchester Watch Beefeaters before being lit on the bonfire.

Gates open at 6pm when the evening's entertainment, provided by Michael Fitch, will begin.

The procession kicks off at 7pm before the main event, the fireworks, which are provided by Dynamic Fireworks, start at around 7.30pm.

Tickets are still available at a cost of £9.50 per adult, £4.50 per child and under fours go free.

They can be purchased at kingcoelskittens.org, at Hollytrees Museum, the Mercury Theatre or at the gate.
