POLICE are on the scene of a crash where the driver has suffered a "potential serious injury."
Traffic officers were called to Tollgate Road, Stanway, on Friday morning.
A car is believed to have left the carriageway before skidding down a grass verge close to houses.
Roads policing officers PC Tom Raes warned people to drive to the road conditions with temperatures dipping to below freezing overnight.
A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust confirmed a man had been taken to hospital.
He said: "We sent an ambulance and an ambulance officer.
"One person was taken to Colchester General Hospital for further care."

Potential serious injury to driver, all of which was avoidable had the driver driven to the conditions of the road on this cold icy morning! @PCJamesIreland #Fatal4 #DriveToArrive pic.twitter.com/XGWY9QXhQh
