A MAN from Colchester has been arrested following a ram raid at a Co-op.

Officers were called just after 3.30am on Tuesday after a JCB Teleporter was used to smash the shopfront of the store in Chancery Lane, Debenham in Suffolk.

The cash machine was stolen from inside the building and placed in the back of a white Ford Transit van, which then fled the scene with a Red Audi S4 following behind.

Three men were seen to have been involved.

Several police units were sent to the scene and surrounding area and a search for the suspect vehicles took place.

The Transit van and the Audi were located in Syleham at around 4.20am. The cash machine and its contents were still inside the van.

A large-scale search including a dog unit resulted in the arrest of a 30-year-old man from Colchester on suspicion of burglary and also taking a motor vehicle without consent.

He was taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre and is still being questioned.

No other arrests have been made.

The digger was stolen from a farm and the Ford Transit was stolen from an address in Bures St Mary.

The red Audi had been reported as stolen from an address in Danbury overnight.
