A COLCHESTER man has admitted his part in a ram raid at a Co-op.

Jesse Gatehouse, of Defoe Crescent, was arrested after the burglary at the store in Debenham, Suffolk.

Officers were called after a JCB Teleporter was used to smash in the front of the shop.

The cash machine was taken and put in the back of a white Ford Transit van which was then driven away in convoy with a red Audi S4.

Both had been stolen.

Police spotted the red Audi and rammed it off the road where it crashed into a hedge.

Two men ran off and Gatehouse was arrested

The 30-year-old was taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning and was subsequently charged with burglary.

He appeared before Ipswich Magistrates’ Courton Wednesday where he admitted burglary and was remanded in custody to appear before Ipswich Crown Court for sentencing, on a date yet to be fixed.

The van was later found and had the cash machine inside.

Police are still hunting for the two other suspects.

Following initial police enquiries, the JCB was discovered to have been stolen from a farm in Debenham and the Ford Transit was stolen from an address in Bures St Mary.

Both of these vehicles were taken at some point between Monday night and the early hours of yesterday morning.

The red Audi had been reported as stolen from an address in Danbury near overnight between Tuesday October 29 and Wednesday October 30.
