MY disabled husband had an appointment for a scan at Basildon Hospital.

When we arrived at Basildon, there were no disabled parking spaces free and there were cars queueing for them, the multi-storey car park was obviously full as there was another queue and every other car park in the hospital grounds was showing full with cars queueing to get in. We gave up in the end, came home and rang to cancel his appointment.

No wonder people don’t keep their appointments - they can’t get to the hospital.

My main concern is that if they go ahead and close Orsett Hospital, the situation will get worse.

Basildon Hospital can’t cope now, with Orsett taking some of the overflow.

Somebody commented that the multi-storey car park is probably full of commuters’ cars who use the station but that can be stopped by making people show their appointment letter to the parking attendants to prove they have an appointment or scan the barcode on the letter into the parking machine.

Something really needs to be done and the best thing would be to keep Orsett Hospital open and move some more of the outpatient clinics over to Orsett and maybe even some of the clinical departments.

This would take some of the strain from Basildon whilst perhaps another car park is built there.

These are all common sense ideas that would work and hopefully someone will take note.
