A BODY has been found in the search for a missing Basildon man.

The search for Aaron Cullingford, 43, has been suspended following the discovery on Thursday evening.

Mr Cullingford was last seen on Tuesday, November 26.

Essex Police stated volunteers from Essex Search and Rescue found a man’s body in Pitsea.

The police had been conducting a wide search of various green areas around the A13 near Pitsea, and in Wat Tyler Country Park.

The body was eventually discovered outside of the country park boundaries and near Pitsea Hall Lane.

While formal identification is yet to take place, Aaron’s family have been informed.

Police stated they remain open minded regarding the cause of death and a post mortem examination will take place in due course.

Mr Cullingford was spotted on Sunday, November 24 at around 2.30pm walking his dog on Clayhill Road.

He was seen again on Tuesday, November 26 at around 2pm on Rydene Place.

A missing persons appeal was launched two days later after his dog returned home without him.

Residents near the A13 said police had been conducting searches for several days last week and were concerned about all the activity.

Tributes have been paid to Mr Cullingford on social media.

Sally Brady said: “So sad. I knew Aaron from the pharmacy I worked in, he was a very gentle speaking man.”

Friend Tanya Barling said: “I remember when you’d knock on my door and ask for a tea bag or a spoon full of sugar, the times you’d need to use microwave because didn’t have one.

“The time you climbed through your bathroom window because you locked yourself out, or the first time you met Freddy and your exact words were ‘how do you look after a baby’ and ‘you’re doing a great job’.

“The times you’d tell me off for carrying heavy things up the stairs because I’m a female and female shouldn’t be lifting heavy things.

“I remember all the little things you’d say and do. You made me feel so safe.

“I knew if I ever needed anything I could just ask you. Five years of friendship but a lifetime of memories. Sleep tight, I’ll look out in the sky for you.”

The identity of the body has not been formally confirmed by police at this time.
