DRIVERS are facing long delays on the A12 this morning following a crash.

The incident happened on the southbound carriageway between junction 20, Hatfield Peverel and junction 19, Boreham.

Emergency services are at the scene and helping to deal with the incident.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: "We were called shortly before 7.20am this morning, Thursday 23 January with reports of a road traffic collision involving a motorcyclist on the A12 southbound at Hatfield Peverel.

"The motorcyclist is being treated for injuries not believed to be life-changing.

"Enquiries are ongoing."

The vehicles involved are being cleared away from the carriageway but there is nearly eight miles of queueing traffic on the southbound carriageway.

Traffic is being made worse because of a broken down crane near to where the crash happened.

One lane remains closed.

Tailbacks are said to have stretched as far back as Kelvedon and traffic is also heavy across Witham as people look to avoid the crash.

Update 12pm

The incident has been cleared and traffic has eased.
