Two bodies have been discovered in the river behind a pub.
The bodies were found in the river off Wharf Road, Grays this morning.
A large number of emergency services were spotted near to The Wharf in the road, with a cordon in place around the pub.
A spokesman for Essex Police said: "Police were contacted at just before 7.30am today, following reports that a body of a woman had been discovered in the river at Wharf Road, Grays.
"Officers and paramedics attended the scene but the woman was sadly pronounced dead.
"Whilst at the scene, officers discovered a second body.
"At this time the deaths are not believed to be linked and are being treated as separate incidents.
"Police, paramedics, fire crews and the Coastguard remain at the scene."
Police say the deaths are not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared by the coroner.
