ORGANISERS have confirmed a hugely popular biking event will return this spring.

Thousands of bikers will descend upon Southend Shakedown on Easter Bank Holiday Monday.

The completely free event - resurrected last year - will take place on Southend’s seafront on April 13 between 10am and 5pm.

It will feature live music on City Beach from 11am until 5pm featuring Pure Dshe, The Roosters, Short Round and You Little Thief.

The family-friendly day will have plenty for visitors of all ages including the Southend Ghostbusters Team with their Ghostbusters van and the giant Stay Puft Marshmallow Man character.

Event bosses are expecting to see thousands of motorbikes descend on the seafront including members of clubs fans with custom bikes.

Adam Ball, chairman of the Southend Shakedown Committee, and Steven Maynard, vice chairman, said: “We were very pleased with the turnout for 2019 and would like to thank everybody that attended, and we hope to see you all again this year.

“In the interest of public safety, we are keeping the road closure and the provisions for 3,500 bikes.

“We would like to thank Southend Council and Devitt Insurance for the support with this event along Southend’s glorious Victorian seaside venue.”

This year The Devitt Southend Shakedown will be raising money for Little Havens Hospice.

Provisions have been made for limited parking in Marine Parade and there is also parking in Western Esplanade with all overflow being directed to the gas works car park in Eastern Esplanade.

Joan Tiney, chairman of Southend Seafront Traders Association said: “Many venues will be putting on live entertainment on the day.

“We’ve got The Dekkertones at The Borough Hotel and will provide facilities for the event team on the day – we wish the committee the very best of luck for the event.’
