A 17-year-old hid in a Basildon post office for protection after being chased by two people on a motorbike.

The boy raced into Barstable Sub Post Office, on Stacey's Corner, Timberlog Lane, at around 1pm yesterday afternoon, where staff quickly acted to stop the pair getting inside.

Witnesses recalled watching owners lock the door, and hearing the pair shouting to the teen to come outside. It was also reported they made threats to stab him.

A motorbike was then driven into the door of the post office, in an attempt to get inside. They then drove off.

A spokesperson from Essex Police, said: "We were called at around 1pm yesterday, Tuesday 18 February, about a disturbance in Timberlog Lane, Basildon.

"We received reports that two people on a motorbike were chasing a 17-year-old boy when he ran into the post office.

"People inside the building acted quickly to stop the suspects getting into the building before the motorbike collided with the front door. They then rode off.
