‘Ill-fitting’ suits have been donated by one of Essex’s MPs to a charity shop which helps young people get into the world of work.

Mark Francois, MP for Rayleigh and Wickford, donated his suits to the Phab shop in Rayleigh, which givse young people the chance to work behind the tills and with customers.

Mr Francois joked at the handover: “They weren’t fitting as well as they used to.”

The Phab shop, on the high street, gives youngsters with additional needs the chance to gain retail experience before they get a full-time job.

The MP explained why he chose the shop: “It’s such an important part of our community.

“Here, volunteers with additional needs are given the opportunity to develop skills and confidence.

“There is always a warm welcome, a friendly atmosphere and it has been fantastic to meet not only current volunteers but some who have gone on to full-time employment.”

The owner of the shop, Jenny Drewer added: “Eight years since launching, we’re going from strength to strength. To have Mark’s support means so much. Our volunteers are so enthusiastic, hard-working, and full of potential, and having the chance to tell Mark about what they do gave them a real boost.”

The suits will be on sale for a starting price of £10.
