GWYNEDD Council is working with businesses across the county to ensure they follow the latest regulations introduced to help stop the spread of Covid-19.

A spokesperson said: "We are grateful to the vast majority of Gwynedd businesses who are playing their part and adhering to the national regulations which are in place to help protect the public during this unprecedented situation.

"However, we won’t think twice about using our enforcement powers to serve notice on those businesses that flout the regulations and are working closely with colleagues from North Wales Police on such cases.

"One establishment in Corris has ignored the national directive that they cease trading for the present period. Officers from Gwynedd Council’s Public Protection team have worked with North Wales Police to investigate the matter and as it became clear that the business was unwilling to adhere to the new regulations, we have served notice on the business to close with immediate effect.

"Should the business continue to flout the law, we will consider what further steps would be required under the new regulations.

"It is essential that we all follow the new directions to ensure that our Health and Care Services are able to cope with the significant impact the virus will have on Gwynedd residents."

People should only leave their homes for one of four reasons, which are:

- shopping for basic necessities, e.g. food and medicine. This should be as infrequent as possible;

- one form of exercise a day, e.g. a run, walk, or cycle - alone or with members of your household;

- any medical need, or to provide care or to help a vulnerable person;

- travelling to and from work, but only where this absolutely cannot be done from home.
