A BBC presenter has been named as one of the judges for the Sussex Young Musician of the Year competition.

The competition gives young musicians the chance to win up to £1000 towards their music studies, and Katie Derham, the face of the BBC Proms, will be on the panel.

She said: “Throughout my career I have been lucky enough to present the proms, host the classical BRIT awards, conduct orchestral, choral and operatic music through BBC’s Maestro programme and rediscover my passion for playing the violin. I am thrilled to have been invited to be on the judging panel for this year’s Sussex Young Musician of the Year competition. As a Sussex resident, I’m particularly looking forward to seeing the competition finalists and being able to help our stars of the future during these very challenging times for the music industry.”
