On 4 July, pubs, restaurants, hair salons and barbers opened adhering to COVID secure guidelines, along with our high street businesses.

During this transitional period, we are asking everyone visiting Wickford to:

Remain kind and considerate and if you see an issue to raise it thoughtfully with staff

  • Remain kind and considerate and if you see an issue to raise it thoughtfully with staff
  • Wash your hands regularly to take care of stopping the spread of Coronavirus
  • Remember residents who may live nearly and be considerate when leaving venues
  • Wear a face covering if using public transport or a taxi
  • Support the NHS Test and Trace scheme if you are asked to.

The government has also issued guidance stating that where it is not possible to stay two metres apart, people must keep a social distance of 'one metre plus'. This means staying one metre apart plus as much extra distance as possible closer to 2 metres in order to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission.

While the infection rate continues to fall, the government has been clear that the public must continue to follow social distancing guidelines to keep coronavirus under control.

In Billericay and Wickford town centre shopping areas we are implementing a 20mph speed limit in the high streets. Route marking and signage will also be displayed in order to keep at the relevant social distance. You will notice several new measures designed to protect you. These include limits to the number of customers in a store at one time, markings inside and outside stores to help with queue distancing, cleaning stations and one-way systems.

You will also be encouraged to pay by card and you'll notice that many shops have installed panels to protect staff at tills.
