A WOMAN awoke to find raiders in her bedroom.

The shocked woman shouted at the burglars who then fled from the house empty handed.

Now police have issued an appeal in a bid to find the crooks.

The incident happened in Vineway, Dovercourt, in the early hours of yesterday.

The victim contacted police at about 3.50am after waking up and finding someone in her bedroom.

However, after shouting at the burglars, they ran out of the house through the patio door.

Police had also received reports of two men who were seen trying to open doors of cars parked outside a home in Deepdale Road, Dovercourt, at 4am yesterday.

They also tried the front door and side gate.

Bill Davidson, councillor responsible for the Dovercourt Vines area, said he’s concerned to hear about the crimes.

He said: “I’d urge residents to be vigilant and make sure everyone’s sheds, garages and windows are locked overnight to try to make it as hard as possible for burglars.

“If you see anything suspicious phone the police immediately and let them do their job.”

Police have now appealed for the public’s help and want to speak to any witnesses or anyone with information.

Officers have been carrying out inquiries in the area.

An Essex Police spokesman said: “We are speaking to residents in the area and carrying out inquiries and are keen to hear from anyone whose property has been affected.

“We’d also like to speak to people who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area around the Vineway and Deepdale Road or has any CCTV or doorbell footage.”

Anyone with information should call Clacton CID on 101, quoting incident 110 of July 20, report online at essex.police.uk or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
