A COMPETITION to name the latest addition to Halstead’s floral displays has revealed a winner.
Halstead in Bloom has unveiled the name of its new scarecrow – Sunny McSmileyface.
The scarecrow is as part of the group’s ‘virtual allotment’ display.
The display, which is at the Loom Garden outside Halstead Hospital in Hedingham Road, features plants and vegetables made out of recycled plastic bottles and yoghurt pots.
The allotment was created by Halstead in Bloom’s Krafty Krew.
Members of the group decided the new scarecrow needed a name and launched a competition for residents.
The competition had a good response with almost 40 people taking part.
The overall winner was ten-year-old Eleni Haynes, who chose the name Sunny McSmileyface.
The competition had three age brackets with each one having their own winners.
In the under-fives category, the winner was Freddie Myers with his suggestion of Mr Scruffy.
In the five to nine bracket, Thomas Argent won with his entry Sunny Sunflower.
Overall winner Eleni was the winner of the ten to 14 age group.
