Armed police swarmed to a Rayleigh home and cordoned off the street after concerns were raised for the welfare of a man.
Officers took to Albert Road at around 3.30pm yesterday afternoon (August 26) after being contacted by the ambulance service, informing them of the incident.
When teams arrived, it was found the distressed man had barricaded himself in his room.
The man then eventually came out of the room after speaking with officers several hours later, emerging at around 10.25pm.
A 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill and causing breach of peace.
He remains in custody for questioning.
A spokesperson from Essex Police, said: "The ambulance contacted us with concerns for the welfare of a man at an address in Albert Road, Rayleigh, at about 3.30pm on August 26.
"He had barricaded himself in his room and officers spoke with him until he came out at around 10.25pm.
"We thank members of the public for their understanding and support while officers managed this incident."
