Have you ever wondered where the most dangerous roads in Southend for cyclists are? 

Around 15 per cent of the town’s population cycles once a month and that number is predicted to rise. 

According to the latest government statistics cycling increased by more than 300 per cent across the UK during the height of lockdown from March 16 to June 1. 

Crash Map is an interactive tool which allows you to see exactly where ‘fatal’, ‘serious’ or ‘slight’ accidents have happened in your area.

The data for the site is sourced from police and government databases up to 2019.

Between 2015 and 2019 there were 164 recorded bicycle accidents.

London Road from Chalkwell Park to the B1015 turning saw a large number of accidents, with 15 recorded over five years. 

A third of the reported accidents on London Road were 'serious' and involved two or more vehicles. 

East Street by Prittlewell station also saw a concentration of 'serious' accidents.

The busy A13 by Thorpe Hall Avenue recorded a number of crashes over the five years period, specifically around the A13 roundabout. 

The Brighten Road turning on to the A13 in Westcliff had three accidents in the same place pointing to an accident blackspot.

The town centre of Southend also saw its fair share of accidents, with the majority being towards Southend East. 

There were 10 incidents, two which were 'serious' along the A13, Southchurch Road, from the Victoria Shopping Centre to Surbiton Avenue in five years.
