DRAMATIC new images have been released revealing what Basildon will look like after a major overhaul of the town centre.
The plans, which have been released to the public as part of a consultation, show life brought back into the centre, with key areas of the revamp including St Martin’s Square and market place.
Garden roof-tops and 500 plus homes are included in the masterplan - with a 17-storey building potentially replacing the Moon on the Square pub, Greggs and a Subway on Market Square.

Lloyds Bank and Mallard Jewellers would also go if the plans are given the green light.
It comes after Basildon Council previously revealed plans to move Towngate theatre to East Walk, as well as the huge 5,000 seater stadium plan to replace the Westgate shopping centre.
Gavin Callaghan, leader of Basildon Council, said: “This will be a drastic improvement on the current town centre, which needs to be driven into the 21st century.
“We need the basics, like decent transport links, better retail economy and better hospitality. People have said it’s a ghost town after 5pm, and it is, which is why we want to see it alive with new bars and restaurants.
“I think residents are most keen to see Basildon have a place for our young people, keeping them safe and giving them something to do, which is why the youth zone will be in the heart of the town.”
