A Laindon school have had a confirmed case of Covid-19, bosses have revealed.

A small bubble, believed to be of around 20 students who go to The James Hornsby School on Leinster Road, have been advised to self-isolate after having been in direct prolonged contact with the individual.

Bosses took swift action as soon as they were notified of the result, and have reminded fellow students that the school remains open.

Children should continue to attend if they remain well.

In a letter home to parents, headteacher Daniel Steel, said: "We have been advised by Public Health England that there has been a confirmed case of COVID-19 within The James Hornsby School.  

"We know that you may find this concerning but we are continuing to monitor the situation and are working closely with Public Health England.

"This letter is to inform you of the current situation and provide advice on how to support your child. Please be reassured that for most people, coronavirus (COVID-19) will be a mild illness. 

"The small number of children who have been in direct prolonged contact with the individual confirmed to have tested positive for COVID19 have been contacted directly and will be staying at home for 14 days.

"The school took swift action as soon as we were notified and in conjuction with advise from the DfE and Essex Test and Trace. 

"The school remains open and your child should continue to attend if they remain well."
