A TOWN estate will host a scarecrow trail to celebrate Halloween.

Community groups across the district are working hard to find an alternative to trick or treating this year because of social distancing restrictions.

The Lyons Hall Friends association, which is based in Braintree, has announced it will be running a scarecrow competition.

Residents living in the Kings Park area are being encouraged to enter the contest and make their own scarecrow, which will be on display in their front gardens on Halloween.

Organisers will also draw up a map of the area showing residents where they can see the scarecrows.

They will also be encouraged to vote for their favourite.

Co-organiser Angela Thorne said: "A lot of our fundraising is usually done with a Christmas shopping event and discos which this year we will not be able to do.

"We have additional space for people who wish to enter the competition from outside the area.

"We are also saying if you people want to dress up that is encouraged too, to help make the event more fun."

Dozens of households have signed up to the event so far but organisers are still searching for more.
