POLICE closed a busy road in Basildon this morning amid concerns for the welfare of a man.
Officers were called to Whitmore Way around 8.40am amid reports a man had been seen on the roof of a building.
All three emergency services were called to the scene but the man was brought down to safety.
A police spokesman said: "We were contacted at about 8.40am on Saturday 17 October with concerns for the safety of a man on the roof of a building in Whitmore Way, Basildon.
"Officers, the ambulance service and fire service attended.
"Following engagement with the man, he was brought to safety."
Bus services in the area were affected by the closure.
Route 1A - Due to a police incident on Whitmore Way at the junction with Church Road, the road is closed. The 1A is currently being delayed, and is unable to move or turn around. Updates to follow when the vehicle is moving again.....

The road was reopened around 11am.
