A WOMAN has been airlifted to hospital after a car smashed into a tree in what police are describing as a "serious" incident.
Essex Police are currently on the scene of a car crash on the A12, at Ingatestone, which has led to the northbound carriageway having to be closed.
According to reports, at about 8.30am today, a vehicle left the road before smashing into a tree.
As a result of the incident, a woman had to be airlifted to hospital in an air ambulance having sustained serious injuries.
The northbound carriageway has been shut and is expected to remain closed into this afternoon.
Drivers are, therefore, being asked to avoid the area and plan their journey in advance.
Anyone with information about the collision is asked to call 101 quoting incident 279 of 25 October.
