THE AA has publicly issued its concerns that many councils are failing to take appropriate action to install electric vehicle charge points in residential streets.

After 18 months in administration, the current Labour/Independent-led coalition in Southend still has no published plans to install a single residential pavement electric vehicle charge point in Southend.

While Southend now wallows in the bottom 15 per cent of the UK for public electric vehicle charge points in general, this is a fundamental failing of our environmental responsibilities to our residents and children.

How do we expect to encourage residents who do not have off-street parking to make the transition to cleaner renewable transport solutions if our elected representatives are taking no action?

Actions speak much louder than empty political rhetoric.
