A woman accused of a £250,000 shop fraud breached her bail conditions by going to M&S and Sainsbury’s.

Narinder Kaur, 50, of Cleverton, Chippenham, is due to stand trial at Worcester Crown Court next year on allegations she “returned” items she had not bought so she could fraudulently claim refunds. It is said the scam, which she denies, netted her quarter of a million pounds.

The 50-year-old appeared before Swindon Magistrates’ Court on Monday accused of breaching bail conditions banning her from going to a number of shops.

Appearing in court via video link from Melksham police station, Kaur admitted going to Sainsbury’s and M&S on November 11 and M&S on November 20. She said she had been confused over which shops she was allowed into.

After hearing the woman was due to have an operation this week, District Judge Joanna Dickens readmitted her to bail. She must comply with a daytime curfew, running from 8am to 8pm. Kaur was banned from going to the following shops: Co-op, Dunelm, Sainsbury’s, Tesco, John Lewis, M&S, Debenhams, Boots, Homebase, TK Maxx, House of Fraser, Homesense and Reiss.
