VULNERABLE members of the community were able to enjoy some early Christmas cheer thanks to their local football club.

Billericay Town FC’s players and members of the coaching staff headed to the Billericay Community Housing Association to distribute hampers filled with treats and goodies.

The move came in a bid to raise spirits ahead of a Christmas like no other, in Tier 4.

The Billericay Community Housing Association provides sheltered housing for people of retirement age, catering for the more needy members of the community.

Nick Hutt, co-owner of the National League South football club, said: “At Billericay Town, our community means everything to us and the players want to be part of our community work.

“The elderly have had it particularly tough this year, with many having had to self-isolate and not see children, grandchildren or great grandchildren.

“It was wonderful to see the smiles on their faces when the players delivered the hampers and I was particularly proud of the way the younger players conducted themselves and interacted with the residents.”
