A FAMILY have been left heartbroken after the tragic loss of a treasured mum on New Year’s Eve - shortly after she gave birth to a daughter.

Chelsea Cooper, 31, tragically passed away less than two weeks after giving birth, leaving behind her devastated partner, Darren, and her four young children.

Chelsea, of Canvey, started feeling unwell after welcoming her daughter, Tori, to the world on December 20.

By December 28, Chelsea was still struggling and after going to bed to rest, Darren found her collapsed on the floor, unresponsive and blue.

The mum was rushed to Southend Hospital where she was put into an induced coma and on life support, before being transferred to Basildon to be treated by a specialist team.

The team found she had a number of blocked arteries but were unable to save her and she passed away on December 31 after her organs began to fail.

A fundraising page has been set up to help take away the financial pressures that Darren will face being both mum and dad to their young children.

Toni Croft who set up the gofundme page is a family friend to Chelsea and Darren. She told the Echo: “So many people wanted to help so I suggested setting up a gofundme page.

“That way Darren had funds so there was a financial help to help him pay for things without him having the financial stress of everything on top of losing his partner and having to be a kind of mum and dad to four kids which is exceptionally hard when you’ve not done it on your own like this before.

“All of us went out and brought particular items for the family like clothes, nappies, pyjamas. Darren lives in a caravan, so there’s very limited space so there’s only so much he could accept in terms of clothes.

“The fundraiser is to give him extra financial support to take away the day to day stresses of money so he could focus on being mum and dad to the kids and dealing with grief.”

Almost £1,700 has been raised so far and Toni is hoping to raise as much as possible. Visit gofundme.com/f/tragedy-of-dad-and-4-kids-losing-their-partner-mum
