A BASILDON primary school has been working to improve the community by picking up litter during their break times.

Pupils at Greensted Junior School have given up their lunch and break times to pick up litter in the area outside their school grounds.

This has been headed by the Eco-Warriors Club which is ran by assistant headteacher Clare Capper.

Clare said: "Caring for the environment and sustainability are some of the core values that we try to instil in our pupils.

"They take pride in doing their bit for the local community surrounding the school - this means we litter-pick as often as we can and promote recycling initiatives on a regular basis.”

The Eco-Warrior group have been supported by Basildon Council and the Wickford Wombles who have helped to supply the children with equipment and resources.

Residents have also shown their support.
