A BOUNCER accused of killing a man told police the victim was angry, aggressive and threatening before the incident, a court heard.

Leslie Wiseman, of Whitehouse Meadows, Eastwood, claims he acted in self defence when Paul Wallington suffered catastrophic injuries in the early hours of Christmas Day, 2018.

Mr Wallington, 25, died days later after being involved in the incident outside the Vine Bar, in Brentwood.

Wiseman denies manslaughter and told police when he was arrested that Mr Wallington had also been aggressive towards his partner.

He told police: “I do not know what time he left the bar but he became aggressive about his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend.

“Other customers tried to intervene and I told him he couldn’t act like this and he was intoxicated and very angry and aggressive.

“I was standing in front of him and he was threatening and very aggressive to other men and my colleagues.

“He threw his girlfriend out of his way and was being very over the top and swearing at her too.

“He came to me and was going to attack me and I put my hand out to his upper body to stop him and catch his chin and he fell backwards into the road.

“I went to help and get him out of the road and took him to one side where he was safer.

“He was unconscious but was breathing and was full of panic and adrenaline. I walked away and down the road.”

Wiseman also told police he has experience working within the prison service and ambulance.

A statement was also read out in court on Friday from Mr Wallington’s father Geoffrey, who revealed his son visited hospital three times between the incident and his death on December 29.

In his statement he said: “Paul’s girlfriend called to say he had been knocked out by a bouncer.

“When he got to Queens Hospital we were told he had a small bleed on the brain.

“The third time he went back to hospital doctors said the bleed had got bigger and he has two seizures and was left brain dead.”

The trial previously heard from a witness who was unsure if the bouncer had punched or pushed but “excessive force” was used. The trial continues.
