Police are urging people to check their sheds and garages amid concerns about a possible theft of golfing equipment.

CCTV footage has emerged on social media showing two men walking around with golf clubs, a bag and caddy trolley in Clarence Road, Benfleet, in the early hours of Monday morning.

The footage, which was taken around 3.30am, shows the men walking around with the equipment before they then appear to hide behind a wall.

They are then seen walking away from the area with the equipment.

Both men had masks or scarves across their faces, and were either wearing a flat cap or a hoody.

The men are described as white, possibly late teens to early twenties.

Detectives are investigating the incident amid concerns about a possible theft and are urging residents in the area to check outbuildings if they own golfing equipment.

A police spokesman said: “If you live in this area and store golfing equipment in an external building such as a shed or garage, then please check that they are still there.

“As yet we have had no reports of a theft or burglary involving these items and it is feasible that these are items that have been left out as unwanted, however given the circumstances we are erring on that they have been stolen.”
