AN INVESTIGATION has been launched by Essex Police after a drink spiking report.

A 20-year-old girl, from Wickford, claimed to have been spiked while on a night out in Chelmsford on Friday.

She was taken to A&E at Broomfield Hospital as a result.

Essex Police has since confirmed they have launched an investigation into the incident.

They are also reviewing the CCTV extensively.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “We are investigating a drink spiking report which was made to us at about 5pm on Saturday, February 18.

“The incident is understood to have taken place during the previous evening, Friday February 17, at a venue in Chelmsford.

“Our enquiries are ongoing.

“These include an extensive review of CCTV from the venue and taking accounts from staff in the venue as well as others who were with the victim, a woman aged in her 20s.

“Samples from the woman will be sent for forensic examination.

“In addition, we are making enquiries to establish whether there was any contact between the victim and police officers on that evening and, if there was, the nature of those interactions.

“We will be meeting with the woman to outline our findings to date.  

“We understand how all these alarming these reports can be, and we can assure the public that we are carrying out a thorough investigation.

“Anyone with specific information on this incident should contact Chelmsford CID on 101 and cite incident 875 of 18 February.

“Please do not contact the venue directly.”
