As Southend seafront has enjoyed another busy summer, we have taken a trip down memory lane to remember what it looked like in years gone by.

This week the city has been seeing daytrippers heading to Southend seafront in their droves to enjoy the heatwave, and it was a similar story whatever the weather 50 years ago judging by these pictures.

Philip Rosz was a celebrated photographer in the borough during the 1970s and took this eye-catching snap, which allow us to remember the old David Greig supermarket.

Philip, who emigrated to Australia from Leigh at the end of that decade, died after a long battle with cancer on June 29 2016.
