Parts of the patch have been deluged with floodwater, but not for the first time.

The great Canvey flood of 1953 is the worst in recent memory, but downpours have caused flooding across south Essex on many occasions.

The 1960s, 1970s and 1980s saw resident push cars, clean out shops and homes, and even kayak their way through rain water.
