Wendy's and Costa Basildon construction timeline revealed

The announcement that plans had been approved by Basildon Council to build the two new businesses sparked excitement earlier this month and the developer has now revealed a proposed timeline for the plans.

As part of the plans, the Costa Coffee and American burger giant Wendy’s, will open on the car park of the popular Festival Leisure Park.

Work is set to start later this year in the hope of construction being complete in early 2025 before the units are then handed over to Costa and Wendy’s to be fitted out ahead of opening.

The plans are submitted by Aviva Life & Pensions UK and a spokesman said: “We are delighted to be adding further to the options available at Festival Leisure Park with the addition of two new drive thru units to be let to Costa and Wendy’s.

“These additions to the park will provide customers with even more dining choices on site, and the option to eat in, take away or drive thru.

“We aim to complete construction of the new units in Q1 2025, ready for handover to Costa and Wendy’s for them to be fitted out ready for opening.”

The Festival Leisure Park already boasts Pizza Hut, Frankie and Benny’s, Nando’s and much more.

Basildon was previously home to a Wendy’s in the 1980s in the Eastgate Shopping Centre.

Wendy’s have also submitted plans for the chain to open in Southend High Street.

Craig Rimmer, Conservative councillor responsible for economic stimulus and tourism, said: “It is exciting news to hear that construction will be underway soon and that it will be complete in 2025.

“It is also excellent news to have two big food and beverage brands moving into Festival Leisure.

“It is great news for Basildon, helping to boost our economy and bring new jobs to the Borough.”

Last year Basildon Festival Leisure, which welcomes more than £3.2 million visitors a year, celebrated its 25th birthday.
