A MAN living with Parkinson’s says he has been pushed to his “wits end” after years of flooding outside his home... but no one knows where it is coming from.

Colin Rickards has lived in Lower Road, Hullbridge for nearly 50 years.

But two years ago a mystery leak appears to sprung from the pavement outside his home.

Mr Rickards, 79, who runs two Parkinson’s cafes in Hullbridge, claims the water has damaged his prized front garden.

He says he has been left facing continual stress and fears the pavement may collapse at any moment.

The flooding has also impacted Mr Rickard’s neighbours, with the residents unable to get anyone out to repair the issues they are facing.

Mr Rickard said: “The issues are so bad I went out and bought a fish pond pump to try and address the issues, which are absolutely continuous and have begun to kill our garden.

“I’m trying to raise awareness of this because I don’t know what to do anymore, I am 79, I have Parkinson’s and no one seems capable of actually helping us with this problem.

“I am frightened that one day I will walk over the street where the water is coming from and it will totally give way, as it seems to be undermining the street.

“I’ve contacted the Essex water board and the council, we have tried everyone.

“No one seems to think it has anything to do with them, as it is not coming from their remit or coming form their land.

“It is stressing me out, we cannot use our own path out of the house, we have to use our drive entrance.”

Mr Rickards added that his neighbour has started parking his car elsewhere, as he fears the the street could give way.

He added: “We called the water supply and was told there was no leak so it is not their responsibility.

“It has fallen on deaf ears, no one has come and I am at my wits end.”

Essex County Council and Essex & Suffolk Water were contacted for comment.
