I agree with Myra Pallen that McDonalds do not have a waitress service.

However, Wimpy places usually do, so it’s possible Aubrey Stein got the two confused, although I don’t remember seeing a Wimpy Bar in Basildon.

If Mr Stein has a fancy for waitress service, though, I suggest he comes to Southend as we have many cafes and restaurants, both waitress-and self-service.

Even the bus station now has a cafe in it, as does the Civic Centre and the hospital. I would say there’s hardly a street in the town centre where there is neither a cafe or restaurant, nor one in sight.

We even have farmers’ markets with stalls selling meals, and frequently we also have continental markets where some delicious meals are cooked in the open air.

So, Mr Stein, how about giving us a try? If you’re over 60 you can travel from your area free of charge!

Of course there are other places you might enjoy more, like the Priory Park Cafe with a lovely park around it and a museum open most days. Or there’s Chalkwell Park Restaurant though, I believe, advance booking is needed.

Also, many of the bigger stores have cafes or restaurants in their premises now, so we’re really spoiled for choice.

Come and try our eating places, I’m sure you’ll enjoy them.
