Surely, the time has come for Southend Council to actually do something about Priory Crescent!
I do not mean grandiose schemes that are formulated by people that have no interest in Southend other than to further their own aims and greedy ambitions. Numerous cost-effective solutions have been discussed, but to date, no action. The accident happened at around 12.50pm and even with the superb response from the fire crews and the police, the road and Eastern Avenue were still closed until 4.50pm.
It demonstrates that Southend Council has no contingency plans for such an accident and one has to ask why the crashed vehicles could not have be moved sooner to allow the traffic to flow.
This route is virtually the only east/west route now available as other routes have been destroyed by road narrowing and so called “traffic calming” installations. This Tory council and its predecessors have had more than 20 years to solve the problem and I believe the cabinet and its transport member should resign.
