‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ winner Joe Swash had to spend 10 minutes in a darkened pit - but was delighted.

All three remaining celebrities had to take part in a final Bushtucker Trial to win a slap-up meal, and because the actor was convinced he would have to eat jungle creatures in order to win the trio a starter he was relieved to be spared the ordeal.

Instead, he had to lie on his back in a darkened pit, covered in water as rats and eels crawled across him and despite admitting he was "terrified", managed to stay the duration and win a fully-prepared starter, plus extras, for his camp mates George Takei and Martina Navratilova.

George's task for the main course was Joe's nightmare - he had to choose between five dishes of creepy crawlies and five dishes of his favourite foods. Choosing cockroaches over lasagne he said: "I'm a gourmet so bring the roaches on," deciding afterward that he preferred them to the lasagne.

He next polished off two live locusts instead of a Thai curry and rice and a Witchetty grub instead of burger and chips before successfully eating a kangaroo penis.

However, he declined the chance to win a special treat by eating a camel's testicle, insisting he felt ill.

Martina, meanwhile, was faced with five containers filled with various creatures and a star. She was given a helmet and each of the containers was added to the helmet. For each container she withstood she earned a star.

Despite complaining a cockroach had bitten her on the nose and made her cry, the tennis legend survived being joined in the head gear by grasshoppers, cockroaches, stick insects and spiders and won dessert for the camp.

Later that evening the celebrities were pleasantly surprised to discover a table and chairs had been set for them, adorned with candles, champagne glasses and cutlery for their last supper. They enjoyed cocktails and champagne, and their choice of three-course dinners.

Joe was crowned king of the jungle last night (05.12.08) with Martina finishing second and George third.
