MORE than 200 classic cars gleamed in the sunshine at a fun day supported by thousands of people in Billericay.

Visitors flocked to Sun Corner to admire the old cars and sample a host of other fun activities.

Residents were entertained by clever family pets in a dog agility display, staged by coaches from the Billericay Dog Training Centre.

There were also demonstrations by the police and the fire service, including a simulation of a chip pan fire.

The emergency services also showed their more playful side when they took part in an impromptu tug-of-war, which was eventually won by the fire service.

Youngsters also enjoyed puppet shows and balloon making at the annual event, which is organised by the Rotary Club of Billericay Mayflower.

Peter Owen, from the Rotary Club, said: “Billericay families enjoyed themselves and we were delighted we were able to provide the means for them to do so.

“It was a lovely afternoon and a very happy day.

“We’re so grateful to the police and firefighters for coming down to show what they do, but also show they can let hair down and have some fun as well.”

The rotarians had their own display, featuring their signature aid scheme, ShelterBox.

ShelterBox, prepares boxes with supplies for emergencies, including a weatherproof shelter, a warm bed, water purification, cooking aids, toolkits and a children’s pack.
