I was dismayed to read about the closure of the Connexions youth services throughout the county (Dec 8).

Connexions provides so much more than offering just a place for young people to go.

It enables them to access information on a whole range of services, including health, education and social welfare.

Crucially, in terms of youth club facilities, it also gives a safe, non-judgmental place for young people to meet. Often, these include some of the most vulnerable in our communities, especially those not in education or employment who, as a result, run an increased risk of getting involved with drugs and antisocial behaviour.

I fear that with the loss of such a vital service, life for some of these displaced young people will have just got a whole lot harder.
