There is one thing I wished the media wouldn’t do and that is to spread panic.
What is the point in reporting supposed petrol and food shortages, true or otherwise?
We know what’s going to happen – panic buying by those who are unable to keep calm and carry on.
Our lovely little corner shop has us regular clientele for most of the year and somehow ticks over, but when you get a few inches of the white stuff and those who haven’t the bottle to venture too far to their usual impersonal, but cheap, supermarket, suddenly descend like wildebeests on their yearly migration for foodstuff, clearing shelves as they go!
Yes, nice for the shopkeeper profit-wise because of a bit of snow, but where is the loyalty for the rest of the year when they, as retailers, struggle to attract those same customers?
